The F-16C Fighting Falcon nicknamed “BOB” (tail number 90-0808) entered service in 1990. It was delivered to the U.S. Air Force’s 35th Fighter Wing at Misawa Air Base (tail code “WW”) in Japan and assigned to the 14th Fighter Squadron “Samurais”. This squadron—recognized by its “WW” tail code and yellow tail stripe—has a storied and decorated history in the Pacific.
“BOB” became the squadron’s flagship jet, a symbol of dedication for both pilots and maintainers. In 2019, BOB made history as the first USAF Block 50 F-16C to surpass 10,000 flight hours, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Samurais’ maintainers and the jet’s robust engineering. Throughout its career, BOB has flown in support of numerous operations and exercises, including Southern Watch, Red Flag, Vigilant Ace, and Cope Tiger, standing as a testament to American airpower in the Indo-Pacific.
